Getting Started
Cartograph is live in under five minutes. Here's everything you need to go from install to agent-ready.
Setup guide
Install from the Shopify App Store
Search for Cartograph in the Shopify App Store and click Install. Cartograph requests read access to your product catalog and write access to install a UCP agent listener on your storefront.
Open Cartograph in your Shopify admin
After installation, Cartograph appears in your Shopify admin under Apps. Open it to access the dashboard. You'll land on the Overview page showing your store's current agent readiness status.
Click "Scan Products" to score your catalog
Cartograph analyzes every product in your catalog against six agent-readiness criteria and assigns a score from 0–100. The initial scan typically takes 30–90 seconds depending on catalog size.
Review scores and fix low-scoring products
The Products tab shows every product sorted by score. Click any product to see its breakdown and specific recommendations. Growth plan users can use the AI listing optimizer to rewrite descriptions in one click.
Monitor the dashboard as agent traffic grows
As AI agents discover and visit your store, the Agent Traffic dashboard fills in with events, agent identifiers, search queries, and conversion data. Check back daily to see which agents are sending you traffic.
Activating AI Schema
After optimizing your products, activate the schema extension to make your data visible to AI crawlers:
Go to Online Store → Themes → Customize
Open the theme editor for your active theme in your Shopify admin.
Click App Embeds in the left sidebar
App Embeds is where Shopify lists all theme extensions from installed apps.
Enable Cartograph AI SEO
Toggle the switch on to activate schema injection on your storefront.
Click Save
Your store will immediately start serving structured data to AI crawlers.
What it does
The theme extension injects structured data into your storefront pages without modifying your theme files:
Product JSON-LD on every product page — pricing, availability, and descriptions in a format AI crawlers understand.
FAQ schema from your AI-generated FAQs — enables AI assistants to directly answer customer questions about your products.
Organization schema on your homepage — establishes your brand identity in AI knowledge graphs.
All data comes from your Cartograph metafields, generated when you optimize products or run the schema generator.
Reversibility
Toggle off anytime to remove all injected schema instantly. Your theme files are never modified — the extension only adds data, never changes your existing code. Disabling the extension removes all schema markup completely. Your original theme stays untouched.
Product Readiness Scoring
Every product in your catalog is scored 0–100 based on how well it can be understood, evaluated, and purchased by an AI shopping agent. A higher score means agents can confidently recommend and buy your products.
Scores are calculated across six criteria, each weighted equally:
Score interpretation: 0–40 is poor (agents will skip your products), 41–69 is fair (visible but not preferred), 70–89 is good (agents recommend your products), 90–100 is excellent (agents actively prefer your products for relevant queries).
Re-scan your catalog anytime after making changes. Scores update within seconds. Most stores see a meaningful lift within the first week of following the recommendations.
Agent Traffic Dashboard
The dashboard shows real-time and historical analytics for AI agent visits to your store. All data is collected via the Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP) — the open standard that AI agents use to browse and buy.
What you'll see
Agent breakdown — Which AI agents (ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Copilot, Perplexity, custom) visited your store, how many events each generated, and how many resulted in checkouts.
Search intelligence — The exact queries agents sent to your store. Use this to find product gaps and optimize your catalog for high-intent searches you're missing.
Conversion funnel — Full funnel from discovery to checkout: discovery → product view → add to cart → checkout. See where agents drop off and which products convert best.
Revenue attribution — Estimated revenue from agent-initiated checkouts, broken down by agent and product category.
Dashboard data starts populating once your first agent visits your store. If you're on a new install and the dashboard is empty, it means no UCP agents have visited yet — this is normal. Traffic builds as your store's agent-readiness score improves and the UCP ecosystem grows.
